2011 Yamaha Jounama Classic

Yamaha Motor Australia was once again the major sponsor for the 12th running of the Yamaha Jounama Classic held on 29th October 2011. This is a unique event on Jounama Dam nestled next to the NSW Snowy Mountains town of Talbingo. Boats are only allowed on Jounama Dam once a year when Snowy Hydro allows the Talbingo Fishing Club to use the dam which contains brown and rainbow trout, redfin and Murray cod.

Conditions were challenging with showers throughout the day and the fish caught were in great condition, being so well fed, they proved to be very elusive. Some great fish did manage to make the official measurers and the 55 teams that competed all agreed that they will be eagerly looking forward to next year’s event.

Yamaha’s two local dealers, Riverina Marine Centre from Wagga Wagga and Pidsley Bros from Tumut also sponsored the event. As well as being regular competitors, it was a testament to their hard work as Yamaha dealers that the vast majority of boats on the water were powered by Yamaha outboards, a pleasing sight for the Yamaha Fishing Team who also competed in this year’s Classic.

“It is great for Yamaha to be involved in events like the Jounama Classic which also sees families, juniors and female anglers all competing for the category prizes. It’s a friendly and exclusive event that is worthy of Yamaha’s support for both the organisers and competitors alike. The location is simply spectacular here in the Snowy Mountains” quoted John McDonald, Dealer Support Representative for NSW.

The draw for the Yamaha four stroke 4 horsepower portable motor went to a deserving Talbingo local, 17 year old Brad Smith, who was elated with picking up such a great prize and it will be put to good use fishing the surrounding dams on a regular basis.
